The Gloryhunters

Glorfindel's Gloryhunters were there at the birth of the Aftermath Blood Bowl league – most of the players who would later grace the pitch in Season I played in the very first Blood Bowl game to take place under the aegis of Aftermath (an easy “friendly” win against a badly coached bunch of dwarves who disappeared shortly afterwards, though their corpulent coach is still hanging around the fringes of the game). That first glorious year in the league brought many plaudits for Glorfindel Freshbreath's team: they remained the only unbeaten side at the end of the season and picked up the best offense award for their free-scoring style.

It was in the closing section of the season that the legend of the Gloryhunters took its most bizarre twist – as the team began preparations for their first play-off game team captain Glorfindel was approached by an envoy from the Isle of Albion asking for the team's help to resolve a terrifying situation whereby the fate of the world rested on the outcome of a Blood Bowl match. Glorfindel, sniffing the chance for glory of epic proportions promptly resigned his team from the league and set off to Albion. We can only presume that Glorfindel's Gloryhunters were victorious in this game (the world is still here – what more proof could be required?) – but they remained disappeared for the whole of the following season.

In the off season following Season II rumours began to abound that the Glorfindel's Gloryhunters were once again in training deep in the heart of Loren forest and finally these rumours were confirmed when they took to the field in a brutal “friendly” against the New Orc Giants (a game that was to see Capt. Glorfindel pick up an injury that was ultimately to end his career on the pitch). Following some large scale re-organisation the team was rebranded simply “The Gloryhunters” and a new logo for the team produced – reflecting their near-death experiences on the Isles of Albion. Glorfindel is now the offensive coach – his place in the team being taken by a distant cousin.

Despite their change of line-up, and the firing/retiring of many of their former players, The Gloryhunters remain committed to playing the "beautiful game" – open, free flowing Blood Bowl. Their line-up still includes crowd pleasing favourites such as top-scorer Legolam, war-dancer par excellence Feanor Enemas (purveyor of his own brand name haemorrhoid cream) and the mighty chestnut heart of the scrimmage: Cranky Conkerbonce. The question most were asking as the season began was which team would gain that most sought after of epithets and be able to name themselves the first team to beat The Gloryhunters? The answer was Vermincelli (in a match which truly put the "blood" into Bloodbowl).
