First week of Sigmarzeit (Turn 5)

The sounds of battle (and tactical withdrawals) again echoed across the Principality last week.

Lord Nightshade marched his banner to Verrucca, only to find the yellow orc defenders hiding behind the city's walls. The Chaos banner dig in for the inevitable seige. Eerie Eyrie took control of Cold Hollow while Sunset Stealer seized the Great North Road. The Tyrant from the Twilight and Hermann Furdangle's banners met in Strawberry Fields and Furdangle finds himself one again without a command as the Tyrant insists on leading the combined force. Joshtasm and Dragonius Maximum march their troops to the north bank of the Lower Blauweiss and into East Stingwood respectively as McFleshy Tanglestick whips this week's new recruits into shape.

It was a tough week for the lizardfolk. Slaan Lord Tukri Slippriness marched his banner into Prywick only to flee in the face of a much large yellow orc banner. Unfortunately the yellow orcs pursued the lizardmen back to Abbott's Church and brought them to battle in the Battle of Abbott's Church.

Battle of Abbott's Church

The lizardmen, now supported by Old Blood Acatlotzin's banner (which had moved into Aldmallow Hollow) held their position in the face of Unsh son of Grunsh's direct attack but found that they were losing almost two lizardmen to each of the orcs they slew. With neither side seeming to gain the ascendancy the two generals met in orca-a-lizardo single combat. After trading blows for what seemed an eternity, both generals unleashed their special decapitation spin attack and both proved successful. With their generals dead, neither side had much enthusiasm for continuing the battle and so settled for a draw, Krakk son of Biff leading the surviving orcs back to Prywick while Slaan Lord Horded Pete took roll call amongst the lizards.

G-ecko's banner moved into Freybank as M-nitor moved to defend the Bridge of Size and Spliss's troops crossed to the west bank of the Lower Vulga. Ch-k-khan boldly led his troops east, confident that his larger force would defeat the red orcs in the Battle of Deepsummer ...

Battle of Deepsummer

Outnumbering his orc opponents, Ch-k-khan had no hesitation to order that his troops make a direct attack on Howlite's force (which had support from Orfall Priory) but Ch-k-khan was shocked when the orcs successfully counter-attacked. With his battle plan in tatters the mighty lizardman general led one last surge and managed to slay his opposite number. This personal victory proved futile, however, as the lizardmen scattered having lost half their number to the cheering orcs (it seems Howlite wasn't all that popular with his troops). Brith the Educated was quick to seize command of the orc banner which had merely been decimated.

Meanwhile the short-legged mountain dwellers to the west stamped inexorably downhill. Oakenthong took control of the dwarves' only new territory this week, marching his banner into Northwell Meadow. Commander Lardparcel's troops - joined by those of Commander Frogbiscuit - fortified their position on Peddlar's Way. Commanders Porkstubble and Norkfondle moved towards the road, marching into Vertpond and Todd Heights respectively as Commander Cowflipper replaced Commander Snugglefluff (who'd marched his troops into Springvale) on Curtis Downs and was, in turn, replaced in Wellnesse Island by Commander Snarkwhippet's new recuits.

The red orcs led by Chaporc the Longhaired thought better of claiming Court Meadows when they spotted Brukka the Grey's much larger banner approaching. Howlite's attempt to march onto Cabrini Way was foiled by Ch-k-khan's attack on Deepsummer - but we already know who came out of that engagement smiling, Howlite's head grinning from ear to ear atop Brith the Educated's new standard. Wezgob had led his troops out of West Magewood to Orfall Priory just in time to lend troops to Howlite. Killer KAn walked unopposed into Buttermere while Kleg the Unwashed and Brak the Purple meet a similar lack of defenders in Bandits Reach and East Magewood. Gobpoo led his troops onto Mashford Bridge where he met the retreating Chaporc and found himself without a banner to command as Chaporc commandeered the extra troops to bolster his own force.

Not everything went their own way, however, Ozzy born of Oz found himself unable to persuade his new recruits to leave the safety of North Wormwood. His banner has been swelled by a legion of new recruits, however, inspired by the territory gained by the red orcs this turn.

Seeemingly surrounded on all sides, the yellow orcs met with mixed success this week. They lost their general in the battle of Abbott's Church, as mentioned above, and Grotstab da grotty found himself beseiged behind the wall so of Verrucca but Brukka the Grey was, at least, successful in chasing Chaporc out of Court Meadow without suffering (or causing) any casualties. Thum son of Wag and Gruff Malcolm's banners combined in Springnesse, Thum taking control of the new force, while Iron Kang moved his new banner to South Dragons Reach.
