Background

Carlsborg lies on the road from Marienburg to the Grey Mountains, close to the border of Brettonia. Once a lawless frontier town, a haven of renegade knights and rebelling peasants or journeying mercenaries just back from distant lands and not wanted in either Marienburg or Brettonia.

The Empire sent Captain Hamblen with a company of troops to quell this den of iniquity. For three days his men cleared the streets, hung thieves and robbers from the town walls and ejected undesirables until a quiet, smoky hush fell over the town.

Told to govern the town, Hamblen's garrison became a mix of Brettonian archers, Empire halberdiers and knights of both realms. He enlisted Captain Wolfgang Kretzfelder to command the garrison, which he did with a steel-like grip. The old one-eyed warhorse turned this mix of men into their own private army.

Also, by chance, when Hamblen arrived at the town of Carlsborg, the Dieten brothers were working under the old blacksmith's shop for the old corrupt governor.

Lucius, the older brother, was practicing his magical arts and potions while Julius, the younger brother, was a builder and a thinker. What the old governor would do with their work no one will ever know.

Now the two brothers work for Hamblen as Wizard and Engineer respectively. For how long, who can tell, but for now they happily stay in Carlsborg.
